About Betsy Baytos
Drawing Jimmy Buffett……
It was the mid-1980’s and I was living in New York, when Lenny Kravitz’s father offered to introduce me to Howard Kaufman, Jimmy Buffett’s manager. I had heard of Jimmy Buffett and was just discovering his music. A breakfast was arranged to meet him, and he graciously looked at my work and hired me on the spot.
With Jimmy, the ocean became my palette, and he made me a better artist. What a joy to develop and live in Jimmy’s endless, imaginative dreams, creating fun, wild designs of parrots, boats, maps, seaplanes, palm trees, shark fins and tropical, margarita inspired motifs, from Havana to the Caribbean, Africa and New Orleans.
I’ll never forget my first design, a colorful red macaw playing the guitar on a black tee, which became one of the signature elements to Jimmy’s storied career.
And now, over 35 years later, I am deeply honored to have been asked to create this artwork to celebrate Jimmy’s wonderful final album, ‘Equal Strain on all Parts’.
‘Bubbles Up’ Jimmy…..
Much love, Betsy
